Lessons from Luke (I)

Luke 1: 5-13

Zechariah and his wife Elizabeth had waited for many years to have a son. But Elizabeth was barren and they were now too old to even expect a miracle. But when the angel of the Lord appeared to him, he said to Zechariah: “…your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son…” An old man with an old wife who was barren, was still trusting God for a son! That is the kind of faith that moves mountains. No matter what, never give up on God because nothing is impossible with Him.

7:11-15 Jesus went about doing good as was His custom and entered this town called Nain. He encountered a widow on her way to bury her only son. Untold Pain. Devastation. No Hope. Jesus felt it all and his heart went out to her. He told her “Don’t cry”. He went up and touched the coffin causing those carrying it to stand still. That’s Jesus. When He shows up you know He’s gonna make something happen. So you better stop what you’re doing because things will not be the same again. He said, “Young man, I say to you get up!” And the guy got up, not dead any more and Jesus gave him back to his mother. That’s what Jesus does. He will restore to life the things that have died in your life. People that you have given up on; projects that failed; relationships that broke; He is able to bring them to life once more and give them back to you. It is never over with Jesus. Another thing: Jesus isn’t throwing empty words when He says to you “don’t cry”. He tells you not to cry because He knows He will make everything alright. Today He is saying to you & me “don’t cry”. Will you trust Him?
